Quilt Exhibit Featuring Kaffe Fassett Collective Fabrics in Cape Girardeau MO
January 3 – January 14 EST
Twenty-two stunning, bright, quilts that include Kaffe Fassett Fabrics made by Cookie Little and Cheryl Reinagel will be displayed at Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp Museum January 3-14, 2025.
The Kaffe Fassett Collective features designs form Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably, and Philip Jacobs. The collective launches a vibrant new range in spring and fall each year. From these, Kaffe Fassett hand picks particular fabrics for his exciting quilt designs, which are featured in his Patchwork & Quilting books.
Viewers may find an interest in the way Little and Reinagel have pieced their quilts using the same pattern. When viewers compare the four pairs, the look of the design is different because of the selection of fabrics each has chosen.
Along with the variety in fabric designs used when piecing, quilts are very interesting because of the top stitched quilting designs they include.
“When you speak with a prolific quilter, you’ll find they can often state the name of each pattern, like blue onion and flying geese along with the design name of the fabric used in their quilt, such as Agate Sky, Lichen, and Square Dance from the 2022 collection,” says Ellen Flentge, curator of education at Crisp Museum. “On occasion, certain pieces may be strategically placed, to be sure to be noticed. Quilters are always improvising but do follow patterns to some extent. Fabrics designs can be discontinued. It takes time to plan and complete a quilt, and you can be seeking a scrap of the right fabric to finish one on occasion.”
This exhibit is free and open to the public.
