Americus
The Grateful Threads Quilting and Sewing Guild, 967 Leslie Lamar Rd., Leslie, GA  31764
The Grateful Threads was established in 2018 with a mission of providing quilts to those in need of warmth, comfort, security or just knowing someone cares.  Largely self-taught quilters, (no quilting police allowed!) we gather on Thursday evenings to sew and socialize.  In our first year, we provided quilts to about 30 cancer patients through Phoebe Sumter Medical Center’s cancer clinic.  In this our second year, we endeavor to provide a quilt to each of 96 children living in foster care in Sumter County.

We hold business meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  The guild has 15 sewing machines, so we’re able to sew on-site in our meeting place, the parsonage of Lee Street United Methodist Church.  Every Thursday, we gather to sew, except for business meeting weeks.  We LOVE having visitors!  Just be prepared; you WILL get put to work if you come!  Our favorite part of each Thursday’s gathering is “Show and Tell.”  We love sharing our work with our quilty friends and getting encouragement and advice from one another.

The guild also sponsors a sewing club at Furlow Charter School and summer sewing camps for young people in the community. We plan to start a morning group in the near future.  For more information, please contact Valerie Duff at vrduff@gmail.com.
